Implementing Tools for Individualized Instruction
On August 18 and 19, the weekend before school started, two TDS teachers traveled to Atlanta to attend ‘The 2 Sisters’ Workshop’. There Stephanie Mullarkey and Beth Golden met the two sisters—Gail Boushey and Joan Moser—who have developed a practical approach for analyzing student data, organizing results, and managing instructional plans. This approach allows for focused instruction based on each student’s greatest areas of need, making optimal growth and high academic achievement possible for all students.
The tools the sisters share with attendees are The Daily 5™ and The CAFÉ™. Their books, trainings, and website are full of teacher-tested, practical, and useful information that can be implemented in any classroom.
The sisters have developed quite a following over the past few years, and because both are still currently employed as teachers, they ‘get it’. According to the sisters, “We are about teaching children, and not a prepared program”.
Stephanie and Beth returned from the workshop re-energized and motivated, with lots of great information to pass along to the TDS teachers. Stephanie’s comment about the weekend was “best weekend of my life, after my marriage and kids!”. We can’t wait to see that level of excitement translated into training, instruction, and student achievement at TDS!
