Academic Program

TDS…where the curriculum is specially designed for the students.

There are no reduced expectations at TDS.  Our students are presented with many of the same textbooks and materials as students in traditional schools, but in a manner that more closely matches their individual learning styles. Supplemental materials are carefully researched and then incorporated to enhance student learning.

So what’s the difference? Our teachers break down learning experiences and large assignments into “doable” steps, presenting instruction through hands-on activities, giving students choices on how they best demonstrate mastery, and using assessment to guide instruction. In addition to the more traditional goals of teaching core subject content, we work closely with students to identify how they learn best and then help them to develop strategies to tackle difficult learning challenges.  Throughout the curriculum, there’s an emphasis on daily planning, strategies to improve organizational and study skills, homework management and guided support for long term projects.

Curriculum encompasses all of the academic subjects as well as physical education, art, music, technology and drama productions. Laptop technology is integrated in the middle and upper schools and throughout the school, there are relevant field trips, interactive discussions and productive fun on a daily basis.

Character Education is not a class to take, but a way of life at TDS. Students are guided and challenged to encourage and support each other, treat faculty and peers with respect, give back to their community and individually put forth their best effort in all they do.

At Tampa Day School, we know that it is our responsibility to find the unique key that opens the door to learning for each child.

“I wanted to make sure Tampa Day School didn’t have a watered-down curriculum for these kids. Honestly, they don’t. Compared to public schools, they had the same text books and were learning the same material.”
