ACADEMIC INFORMATION

At Tampa Day School, we know that it is our responsibility to find the unique key that opens the door to learning for each child.

What Does The Academic Program Include?

Our full curriculum emphasizes individualized instruction in reading, math, spelling, and writing, and includes classes in science, social studies, physical education, and the arts.
Students work at their own rate in each of the main subject areas, but are grouped by chronological or maturational age.
Researched supplemental materials, designed to match a variety of learning styles and needs, are used to teach, enhance, and ultimately to master skills.
Computers are integrated into the curriculum.
Having high academic expectations and including the students in goal-setting promotes a constant emphasis on achieving each child's personal best!
We help students learn to overcome, cope with, or compensate for any deficits in order to function at their optimum potential intellectually, academically, socially and emotionally.

Who Should Attend?

Any child (ages 5- 14) of average intelligence or above, who would benefit from a small class and who needs a teaching style to fit his or her learning style. Our children often have....

    A learning disability
    History of underachievement
Attention Deficit Disorder; Mild Anxiety Disorder; Auditory Processing Difficulties
    Low motivation
    Organizational problems
    Low self esteem

How Is Tampa Day School Different?

We employ a proven educational approach that includes...

Small classes (8-12 children per class)
Un-graded classrooms with individualized assignments (K-3rd)
Working towards mastery of skills, not just an academic grade
1:1 tutoring available when necessary
A speech and language therapist available on site
An occupational therapist available on site
Special attention to handwriting improvement
Encouraging personal responsibility for academic success
A positive environment for learning and improving self-esteem
Carefully selected teachers and staff who have the talent, knowledge and sensitivity to effectively teach skills and build self-confidence in children who previously had negative school experiences
High Level of Parent Involvement

What Kind Of Evaluation Is Necessary?

Before an individualized program can be designed for your child, a comprehensive evaluation of his/her strengths and weaknesses is necessary. If your child has had any specialized testing, our school psychologist will review it. If not, we can provide this evaluation. If it is determined that your child would benefit from TDS, specific educational goals will be tailored to your child, and educational progress will be monitored through on-going evaluations.
